How do you develop growth mindset in your classes?
Growth mindset is developed in our classes through a range of different strategies that help improve how children cope with learning new materials. We provide students the tools that they need to help persevere when they are faced with challenges.
We focus on effort, different strategies to solve problems, asking for feedback, practicing persistence, and choosing difficult tasks.
Is it easy to develop a growth mindset?
Developing a growth mindset isn't easy, but it is achievable with time and conscious effort.
How do you develop a growth mindset?
A growth mindset can be developed by talking to yourself in a positive way. For example, instead of saying, "I can't do it", say "I can't do it yet."
What is my involvement as a parent?
At Chit Chat n' Play, we partner with parents to help their child reach their highest potential. We share weekly personalized reports for parents to give full visibility on the progress of their child. We also encourage our students to share what they learned, as well as teach and share growth mindset and mindfulness techniques to practice regularly as a family.
How can I help my child develop a growth mindset?
Research has shown that parents can help their children develop a growth mindset by praising their efforts rather than praising their existing talents.
Is mindfulness is effective?
Mindfulness can decrease stress and anxiety, improve concentration and focus, and calm down our BIG emotions.
Through our activities, students learn skills to help them notice and understand emotions, how to control impulses, nurture compassion and positivity.
What if my child doesn't want to meditate or sit still?
If that happens, then that's perfectly okay! We are all different and some kids just don't want to sit down and "meditate"- at least not at first.
We introduce mindfulness with sensory awareness activities. Many children associate mindfulness with sitting meditation, but mindfulness is much more than that. Sitting practice is just one way to experience and train mindfulness skill. We introduce mindfulness with fun games to help develop focusing skills.
How can you explain why mindfulness works?
Here are some examples of the mechanics of mindfulness:
Calm
You can learn to calm your busy mind when you're anxious, when you do a test, or go for an interview.Â
When you focus on your breath, your busy mind gets a rest and you get a rest from negative thoughts. When you focus on your senses, your mind gets a chance to calm down. This happens because you pay attention to your senses instead of thoughts and worries.
Focus
When you practice paying attention to your senses, you improve your concentration skills, too.
We do better when we're able to pay attention to what we're doing. When you focus on what you want, you can score higher on tests, achieve higher levels in sports, school, or music.
Emotional Regulation
Mindfulness practice helps people deal with difficult emotions. Through mindful breathing, you begin to notice how thoughts and emotions come and go and you become less swayed by them.
Being aware of emotions and thoughts can help you see them for what they are and you get to decide how to respond.
Happiness
Mindfulness practice can even help you feel more joy and contentment.
When you spend some time thinking of what you're grateful for or thinking kind thoughts, you often end up feeling calmer and happier.
Boosting Your Brain
According to studies, mindfulness changes your brain.
Mindfulness helps our brains to do a better job so that you can better deal with difficult emotions and thoughts and make better decisions. Parts of your brain that manage your response to emotions and thoughts become stronger. The amygdala reacts to emotions and when we're mindful, we get to decide how we respond to life's challenges and we can make good choices more easily.
